Katrina is an elected Member of the Howick Local Board – Pakuranga subdivision.
A Word from your Local Representative:
WORKING HARD FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN PAKURANGA.
It has been an absolute privilege to represent you on our Local Board. This past term I have worked hard to ensure crucial new transport initiatives for Pakuranga; as well as ensured community projects such as ‘Fruit Trees in Schools’ are facilitated. I have also advocated strongly for consideration to be given to our local playground upgrades, to ensure that those with accessibility requirements and special needs are catered for in our new facilities. In addition to this, I have also worked in collaboration with central government on your behalf to ensure the accelerated construction date of the Reeves road Flyover project; as well as advancing our accessibility plan to ensure that we have more accessible facilities and parking across our ward. This will make life easier for our community, particularly our elderly and disabled constituents.
ADVOCATING FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DISABILITY AND PROTECTING LOCAL HERITAGE.
I believe it is important for our elected representatives to be proven hard workers for our community, and to serve across sectors. As a child-cancer survivor and amputee, having lost my left leg to bone cancer at age 11, I am passionate about ensuring that our local health and social service networks are appropriately facilitated. As such, I currently serve our community in a range of voluntary community roles including being Deputy Chair of the Manukau East Council of Social Services, (MECOSS), President of the Amputee Society and a director of the Amputee Federation NZ. I will continue to be a strong advocate for community networking and for ensuring the adequate provision of disability support and improved accessible facilities for our community. I also continue to be involved in a range of cancer support networks and charities.
I love living in Pakuranga, it has long been home to myself, my husband Mark and our two sons Nathan and Samuel. I am personally invested in our local heritage, having long family ties tracing back to Pakuranga’s first settlers. I am dedicated to ensuring that our unique heritage is celebrated and protected.
RESPONSIBLE SPENDING, VALUE FOR RATEPAYERS.
As a financially conservative Board member, with postgraduate qualifications in management and policy, I have fought hard to ensure prudent expenditure of council resources. I understand that continued rates rises are impacting our community and that this is particularly tough on our retired residents and families. This is unfair, and must stop. I can assure you that I will continue to do all that I can to advocate on your behalf to Auckland Council for more affordable rates, as well as to ensure that the funds that are allocated to our Local Board are spent responsibly.
We have had many successes this term on our Board, and with your continued support, we can have many more. I would love to continue to represent you in Pakuranga, and would appreciate your vote in the local elections. On your behalf I will:
- Continue to advocate for more affordable rates and responsible spending of local funds.
- Advocate for local transport solutions, and more accessible public transport and parking.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, and protect our parks and beaches.
- Listen to local people, and advocate for your views, on your behalf.
